Charity match is a high-scoring affair

THERE were goals galore at a charity football game on Saturday in aid of brainstrust.

Unfortunately for East Preston Old Boys, they were all against them, as they lost 10-0 against a more youthful Real Rustington side at Highdown football field, in Littlehampton Road, Worthing.

The event was organised by Steve Davies and Stuart Orford, after one of their five-a-side team-mates was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The event raised £3,000.

Steve said: “It was a really good turn out.

“The referee, Chris Stubbs, let us play with 15 players at the end but we still couldn’t score.

“The crowd loved it though.”

Around 120 people turned up to watch the game before going to The Mulberry pub in Goring Road, Goring, to take part in a raffle and witness a burger challenge – 13 men each attempting to eat one kilogram of food in 15 minutes. None of the challengers managed to finish in the allotted time, however, each competitor raised at least £50 through sponsorship.

Around 25 prizes were donated to be raffled off and included, hospitality Brighton and Hove Albion tickets courtesy of Southern Water, a signed Brighton shirt, a signed Liverpool football, a signed legends shirt, and golf for two at Ham Manor, plus much more.

Steve said he would like to give special thanks to Stuart, Paul Arkinstall and Gary Comber for their contributions to the day, and Shirine and Claire who sold £800 of raffle tickets.
