Charity receives boost thanks to Eastergate pupils

MINI-entrepreneurs at Eastergate's school have raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

The 25 nine to 11-year-olds at the primary school staged a fundraising event for Young Epilepsy.

They decided which activities to stage to produce a better-than-expected profit of £526.43 from their families and friends.

Cakes and games were among the crowd-pullers they staged last Friday.

Teacher Celina Jones said: “It’s the first time the children have put on and run an event.

“They have loved it. They have enjoyed the freedom of being able to put on whatever they have wanted to do and how they wanted to do it.”

The children – five from Year 5 and 20 from Year 6 – applied the lessons they had learnt from Ms Jones’s lessons on saving and spending.

“They had to make sure they had enough money to cover their costs and ensure they could make a profit from the event,” she said.
