Charity's plea to share the love and Race for Life

Set to take place on Sunday June 5 in Horsham Park, Cancer Research UK’s 5k fundraising race is non-competitive and open up to woman of all different ages, shapes and sizes .

Jenny Ainsworth, Cancer Research UK’s Sussex events manager, said: “Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to spend time with the people we love. For this reason it’s also the perfect date to enter Race for Life.

“Everyone who takes part in Race for Life, and raises money for life-saving research, will be playing a crucial role in helping more men, women and children survive cancer,” she continued.

“They will be giving them the chance to have more time with the people they love and to create more precious memories together.”

The Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, runs yearly across the country and help to raise millions each year for the charity; with thousands of women turning out to join in memory of someone they have lost to cancer or in celebration or someone who bravely beat it.

Participants can choose to walk, jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer so being either fit or fast is not necessity of taking part.

Jenny Ainsworth added: “Pledging to take part in Race for Life, alongside thousands of like minded women,is incredibly motivating. The atmosphere on the day is full of emotion.

“And as the cold, dark days of February drag on, knowing that they’ve signed up to Race for Life later in the year could help women feel more inspired to stick to their resolutions to get a little bit fitter in 2016.

“With fire in their bellies and trainers at the ready, we know that women in Horsham are up for the challenge.”

Cancer survival rates have doubled in the UK since the 1970s and the work of Cancer Research has been at the front of the progress that has been made in try to find a cure.

However, there still needs to be more funding and supporters to make sure all cases of cancer are treated and cured as quickly as possible.

The charity receives no additional funding from the UK Government for the research they do or for the lives they save; so relies on the money raised in events like Race for Life.

The Cancer Research team will also be holding a Pretty Muddy race in Brighton on Sunday July 3; for those women who are not afraid to get a little messy.
