Chestnut Tree House fund-raiser’s diary

ALISON Unsted, community fund-raising manager for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, continues her diary tracing the progress of the Chestnutters Ahoy! team as they prepare for the Arundel Bathtub Race on Sunday, August 19.

This has been a good week. The sun is shining, people are happy and the bath is starting to take shape.

We still have our main ingredient, which is the bath, and lots of enthusiasm, but our direction is slightly lacking.

How do you get five Olympic rings, four people wearing sporting themed attire, three oars (someone needs to shout orders), two litres of something refreshing and an emergency hairbrush – you never know when you are going to be photographed – into one bath tub?

I don’t think everyone is taking this seriously enough!

Martin Harvey, who has been organising the bathtub race for a number of years, has even got the Olympic torch involved in publicising this crazy event as part of the Arundel Festival. Torch bearer no. 91, Jason Shaw, was very happy to pose for photos – I wonder if he wants to help us win the race?

Our team, Trish, Caroline, Mags and Pat aim is to raise £500 for Chestnut Tree House, which can go towards giving two children the chance to visit for the day and enjoy our facilities and a range of activities, while giving mum and dad a break from the daily care.

Chestnut Tree House offers families a home from home environment – it is a place of love, understanding and caring, a place of fun, laughter, hope, friendship, and, yes, sometimes sadness. But most of all, Chestnut Tree house is a place for living!
