The show was held at The Newell Centre, in Tozer Way, where cups and shields were presented to the winners by Chichester city mayor Peter Budge and association president and show secretary Margaret Harmes.

Judy Rogers, association secretary, said: “The show was a huge success with many entries of flowers, vegetables, fruit, a domestic section, handicrafts, photography section and a marvellous array of children’s entries.

“We were really lucky with the weather, which meant lots of people came to see the show.

“The domestic judge was Mrs Betty Penticott, who did a sterling job as there were a great many entries. Mr Don Hall and Mr Bryan Linkhorn judged the fruit, vegetables and flowers. Mrs. Jean Arnold judged the flower arrangements, some of which were quite spectacular. Mrs. Mary Martyn-Johns and Mrs Jane Horforth judged the handicraft section and Mr. Paul Robinson judged the photography section, which had some amazing photos.”

There was a raffle organised by Mrs Beryl Cooper and Mrs Carol Gardiner, a plant stall run by Mrs Evelyn Silsbury and a tombola stall run by Mrs Marion Mason.

The guess the name of the scarecrow stall was run by Mr Richard Morey and a bric-a-brac and book stall was run by Mrs Judy Rogers and Mrs Pat Gunputh. Teas and cakes were available in the kitchen, run by Mr Dick Martyn-Johns, Mrs Muriel Ransom and Mrs. Kate Wilkins.
