It is thought the man, from Chichester, suffered a medical episode at the wheel before the crash, which happened yesterday afternoon on the A29.

He was rushed to St Richard’s Hospital but later died.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 1.25pm on Monday, December 28, emergency services were called to the A29 Bury Hill near the Whiteways Lodge roundabout where a Nissan X-Trail car had collided with a tree.
