Chichester man banned from driving after being caught with no lights on

Curtis Pelly, 28, of Maplehurst Road, Chichester, was almost twice the legal limit when he was arrested driving his Peugeot 206 through Market Avenue and East Street in the city in June last year.

He was found to have 67 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath - almost twice the 35 microgrammes legal limit, according to a police statement.

Pelly pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on April 29.

He was banned from driving for 16 months, fined £400 and ordered to pay £300 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

He becomes the 113th person to be convicted of offences after being caught in last summer’s crackdown on drink and drug-drivers in Sussex.

A month-long campaign was run in June as part of Operation Dragonfly, the force’s crackdown on drink and drug drivers.

Of the 119 people to have been charged as part of the campaign, 113 have been convicted of offences so far.

The remaining six are still being dealt with by the courts.
