Chichester residential development shortlisted for award

The RICS awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.

Rousillon Park, off The Broyle, is shortlisted in the residential section.

It is a development of a diverse range of new one, two, three and four bedroom homes.

Previously home to the Royal Sussex Regiment and the Royal Military Police, it is located on part of the historic former Roussillon Barracks site.

A total of 41 projects from the South East have been shortlisted across the eight categories of Building Conservation, Commercial Property, Community Benefit, Design through Innovation, Regeneration, Residential, Tourism & Leisure and Infrastructure.

The projects from West Sussex are:

• Fargro Headquarters, Arundel – eco-designed new warehouse, offices and distribution centre includes a number of ‘green walls’ and 621 solar panels. Category – commercial.

• Littlehampton Arun East Bank Tidal Walls – this tidal flood defence scheme on the River Arun’s east bank in Littlehampton has protected houses and business and also boosted local tourism by creating a new riverside promenade. Categories – design through innovation, infrastructure and regeneration.

• Splashpoint Leisure Centre, Worthing – a new sports complex located on a prime Georgian seafront including three pools, a fitness centre, café, crèche and flexible space for other activities. Categories – community benefit and tourism & Leisure.

• Northbrook College, Worthing – an achievable phased regeneration of the two college campuses over five years that could be funded in a sustainable manner has resulted in improved college performance and provided facilities for the local community. Category – regeneration.

• Wickhurst Green, Horsham – previously 138 acres of agricultural land, this 963 home mixed-tenure community development combines traditionally designed new homes with modern amenities in the village of Broadbridge Heath. Category – residential.

A panel of ten judges will now consider the entries and the winner in each category plus the overall Project of the Year will be announced at a ceremony on 12 May in Brighton.

The overall Project of the Year title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area.

All category winners will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards Grand Final in October 2016 for the chance to be crowned the overall UK winner in their respective category.

Lynn Robinson, RICS Regional Director UK South, said, “We have received an impressive range of entries this year across both new developments and regeneration projects.

“The standard has been extremely high and our judges – who will visit each scheme over the coming weeks – have a fascinating challenge ahead. We look forward to the regional ceremony in May where we will hear the outcome of the shortlist.”

The presentation ceremony with be at the Amex Stadium, Brighton, hosted by Amanda Lamb, ITV’s ‘A Place in the Sun’ presenter.
