CHILD CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED IN A22 CRASH

AN 11-year-old child received fatal injuries in a road accident on Wednesday.

She was cycling north on the A22 at Nutley when she was involved in a collision with a Ford Escort and a Renault Clio.

Two ambulance crews, a doctor and Hotel 900, the joint police/ambulance helicopter, attended.

A Sussex ambulance spokesman said: 'On arrival, the first crew discovered the girl had sustained multiple serious injuries and requested the attendance of a doctor.'

The helicopter landed close by on the cricket pitch.

After being treated and stabilised at the scene, the girl was transferred to the helicopter and flown to East Surrey Hospital at Redhill, arriving around ten minutes later. She was transferred to St George's Hospital where she died.

The driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old man from Wimbledon, and the Renault driver, a 21-year-old Uckfield man, were both unhurt.
