Children and parents '˜walk for wheels' for Herons Dale

The group took a tour of Brooklands Park, in Western Road, Worthing, on Sunday, September 15, to raise funds for a new minibus.

The Walk for Wheels event, supporting Herons Dale Primary School, in Hawkins Crescent, was organised by Friends of Herons Dale.

Head teacher Trish Stepney started the walk and an enthusiastic group of parents and children completed a circular route around the park, with teachers and staff on hand to help out during the day.

The Friends of Herons Dale was formed to raise funds for equipment and therapies for children at the primary school, which is a special school for pupils with a wide spectrum of special educational needs, including autism.

Melissa Young, who runs the parents support group, said: “After the walk, many families enjoyed the delights of the park and went home happy, knowing they had done something fun to help the school raise much-needed funds for equipment and resources.”

She explained the school’s main need at the moment was a replacement minibus for taking the children out.

Further fundraising events are being organised in the Shoreham area by the group to support the minibus campaign.
