Children bowled over by skittles in Bognor Regis

Playing skittles was among the activities in the largest heads-and-hands event in Bognor Regis.

The skills involved in knocking down the pins were just one of the ways in which young children were learning at the biggest Huff 'n' Puff to date.

More than 180 of them joined in to show off their abilities and have some fun at the same time.

The youngsters came from Nyewood and Rose Green schools, Little Acorns at Bartons Infant School and Stepping Stones day nursery in Bognor as well as first-timers Tangmere Primary School and St Anthony's School at Chichester.

They also enjoyed balancing bean bags, throwing and catching balls and making up games. They could indulge themselves on a bouncy castle, with plenty of soft toys to complete their two-hour visit to The Arena sports centre.

Huff 'n' Puff co-ordinator Matt Sealby said the event's purpose was to develop skills such as balance and co-ordination and boost the children's brainpower at the same time.

He visited the schools six weeks ago with a Huff 'n'Puff goodie bag to get the youngsters in the mood.

"The event has doubled in five years," said Matt, a PE teacher at Bognor Regis Community College.

"We started with four schools and 80 pupils. I expect it to grow even more, in which case we will have to allow more time for all the children to be able to join in."
