Children learn of life down on the farm

BIRDS are singing and lambs skipping, so there was excitement at Battle Abbey prep school when pupils set off for their farm trip to the Mohair Centre in Eastbourne.

On arrival the reception and year one youngsters learned the rules of being on a working farm, and were fascinated to discover many lambs were about to be born.

The Battle Abbey school party was then organised into groups and given jobs for the morning - feeding the rabbits and guinea pigs and looking after sheep, pigs and goats. All pupils helped to feed the goats and the sheep and watched in amazement at how quickly some animals can eat.

They also learned about wool and processes such as spinning, weaving, twizzling, carding and felting, all of which mean they had a bagful of goodies to take home at the end of the day.
