Children meet Disney princesses at Chichester fundraiser

More than 1,000 people made their way to the Give 4 Beth fundraising summer fair held in Chichester on Sunday (June 28), raising nearly £4,000.

The money raised will help disabled children across the Bognor and Chichester area, by paying for specialist equipment and operations.

Rich Sherwell is chairman of the charity Give 4 Beth, which was initially set up as a fundrasing campaign to help Bethany Chiddle from Felpham, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy.

It has now become a hugely successful non-profit charity, based just outside of Chichester.

It also operates as a network for families across the district.

To date, the charity has raised more than £100,000.

The theme for this year’s event was Willy Wonka and ‘I’ve got a golden ticket’.

Rich had special bars of chocolate made which were sold in sweet shops in Chichester and Bognor Regis.

A select few contained golden tickets – with a variety of incredible prizes to be won.

“We advertised the golden tickets everywhere – in local schools and businesses, and it really caught on,” added Rich.

And there are three golden tickets still to be found.

The chocolate bars are being sold at Mr Simms sweet shop in Chichester and prizes to be won include a flat-screen television, a games console, and an iPad mini.

The original intention behind Give 4 Beth was to raise £40,000 to fund selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery, enabling Beth to walk.

Rich said: “I got involved with the campaign and did my own events – I got a real buzz from it and carried it on, making Give 4 Beth a registered charity.”

Beth, who is now six, had her operation in 2012.

“We now support eight children who all have different requirements.

“It’s incredible – it all gained momentum very quickly.”
