Children’s author Martin Bradley visited Marshlands Academy in Hailsham.
The author of Dusk until Dawn and Top Gun of the Sky visited the school and shared his books, which feature birds, in a school assembly, and worked with Years 4, 5 and 6 to extend their writing.
The event was sponsored by Bird Brick Houses.
Geraldine Wood, principal of Marshlands Academy, said: “Martin’s whole academy assembly for our pupils, ranging from four to 11 years, kept everyone totally absorbed as he described how he became a children’s author and shared his love for birds of prey. He made an immediate impact on pupils who followed his achievable step-by-step guide to drawing these magnificent birds and pupils rose to the challenge to further research them in their own time. Pupils and staff were fascinated by Martin’s books and they have pride of place in our class libraries.”
Jenny McCutchan, from Bird Brick Houses, instigated the visit after meeting Geraldine to discuss a book donation to the school from the company.
Marshlands Academy sits on the edge of the Pevensey Levels, which hosts breeding barn owls and Jenny saw it as an ideal opportunity to help the children find out more about the wildlife around them.
What started as a donation of a few books quickly developed into a visit from the author, Jenny said. .
