Chloe sets out on glory trail

TEENAGE singer Chloe Powell from Ringmer has made it through to the final stages of South Coast Idol.

The competition is the biggest music talent contest for bands and solo artists outside of TV's X-Factor.

Chris Grayston from Live and Unsigned said: 'We encourage contestants to do there own thing whether that be their own genre, style, play their own instruments or perform their own song.'

Chloe, 15, who attends Ringmer Community College, sang Eva Cassidy's version of Over The Rainbow before judges at the Thistle Hotel in Brighton to maker her way through to the regional semi-final on February 23.

The competition is all geared towards contestants making the grand final which is the showpiece of the whole event. In 2006 it was held at Portsmouth Guildhall and attracted a 2,000 sell-out crowd.

If she wins in the grand final, she will work with Mark Hill (Craig David's producer) and will get to record an album.

All winners will have the opportunity to tour and do as many as 50 gigs across the south including some well known festivals.

The overall aim is to get them signed with a major record label.
