The community choir has previously been backed by a piano or a small band but it has come up with something different for this year’s concert.

The Jazz Pelicans Big Band from Tonbridge had a great success at Ropetackle’s monthly Jazz Breakfast, as guests of host Mike Hatchard.

Mike has been music director for the choir since late last year, so bringing the two together seemed the perfect combination.

The concert will be full of sensational summer sounds. It will be a joyous afternoon with a varied programme.

Ditchling Singers, a sister choir, will be special guests, along with Seven Singers and some fine soloists from the choir.

It takes place on Sunday at 3pm in the main hall at the Shoreham Centre. The cafe will be open for refreshments before the show and during the interval. Tickets are £6, from Shoreham Art Gallery in Brunswick Road, Geoff Howitt on 01273 463768 or from choir members.

The choir was founded eight years ago at Ropetackle Arts Centre by bass-playing legend Herbie Flowers.

It is now based at the Shoreham Centre and give two concerts a year in the town, as well as having performed at Brighton Dome and in Worthing, Southampton and Cherbourg.

The Jazz Pelicans are like-minded musicians who have come together under the direction of Mike Hatchard, best known in Shoreham for his hugely successful Jazz Breakfasts.
