CHOIRS from two continents will unite in Littlehampton next week for a spring show spectacular.

For several years, members of Littlehampton’s Edwin James Festival Choir have been cultivating a friendly relationship with fellow singers from across the pond, in Canada.

Now that friendship with the singers of the Addison Woman’s Choir is set to be solidified even more – with a joint performance on Saturday, May 17, at St James’ the Great Church, in East Ham Road.

Maddie Duncan, of the festival choir, said: “The original connection between the choirs was formed when Lyn Rendle, who sang with the Addison Choir and lived much of her life in Canada running a business with her Canadian husband, came to England to live and became a founding member of the Edwin James Festival Choir.

“The couple made regular visits back to Cambridge in Ontario to visit family, and came up with the idea for exchange visits between the choirs.

“A group from the Edwin James choir first visited Canada in May, 2007, followed by a second visit in 2012.

“The Addison Choir made their first return visit in 2008, and some strong friendships have since developed between the two choirs over the intervening years.”

During their latest visit, the Canadians and some of their partners will be hosted by members of the Edwin James choir, who will show them all the attractions Littlehampton and the nearby villages and towns have to offer.

An excursion has also been planned for a day in London and a farewell dinner at The Vardar Restaurant, in Selbourne Place, Littlehampton, on May 19.

The two choirs’ concert, entitled Darling Bus of May, will feature a medley, including classic and traditional tunes as well as more modern ones from composers and lyricists like Bill Whelan, John Rutter and Billy Joel, among others.

The concert will start at 7.30pm after a joint rehearsal.

Musical director for the Edwin James Festival Choir James Rushman will be joined by Dianne Winkler, who is coming over as acting musical director for the Addison Women’s Choir.
