The run’s organisers were criticised for missing out its traditional High Street stop in 2014.

Peter Smith, Crawley council cabinet member for Planning and Economic Development, said: “We were very dissatisfied with last year’s arrangements so it’s great the Veteran Car Run is returning to the High Street as it’s become somewhat of a tradition in the town as a fun day the whole family can enjoy.

“We are pleased that we have been able to improve the arrangements for this year’s event and will continue to work with the event organisers to maintain Crawley’s vibrant and exciting involvement with the Run.”

Cars will start arriving in the High Street at 8.15am with most expected to pass through at around 10.30am.

A spokesman for Crawley Borough Council said: “Spectators will be able to see the vehicles up close as they pass through on their way to Brighton, and the cars will stop for a time control check point providing an ideal opportunity to take photos. There may even be the chance to chat with some of the veteran car drivers and their passengers as they pass through on their way to Brighton.”

Crawley’s 2nd Ifield Scouts will sell burgers at the event.

It was hoped New City Legacy Jazzband and the Stationary Steam Engine Club will play at the Brewery Shades pub.

A knowledgeable commentary team will be on-hand in the High Street to give spectators some background on each car as it passes through.
