Christian charities launch joint venture in Ferring

Worthing mayor Michael Donin officially opened the Link to Hope and Reloved joint venture in Ferring Street on Saturday.

A crowd gathered to witness the charity shop opening and be among the first to grab themselves a bargain.

The charities both help the poor and rebuild communities, Link to Hope across Eastern Europe and Reloved in Worthing.

Strategic manager Arron Moore said: “This is the first shop for Reloved and the sixth shop for Link to Hope, which has shops in Worthing and the surrounding area.

“The charities are combining their experience and strengths to maximise the fantastic opportunity that has arisen in Ferring.”

Link to Hope was established in 1991 and now supports 20 education and social care projects across Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria. It also send out 39,000 shoe boxes annually to the most impoverished and marginalised people in these countries.

Reloved was established in 2012 as part of the community work of Jubilee Church, Worthing. It works alongside organisations such as social services to help meet the basic living needs of local people in crisis.

Volunteers collect unwanted items of furniture and kitchen equipment, and redistributes them for free to those unable to provide for themselves.

Reloved also provides volunteering opportunities to those who can face barriers to the workplace and provides a safe environment where volunteers can regain confidence.

Mr Moore added: “Both charities are looking forward to the public coming in to see the shop and to be able to raise awareness of their work.

“The new shop would welcome donations of men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, bric-a-brac, toys, furniture and other saleable items. They also undertake house clearances.”
