Musical Drama Group, Christian Voices, forthcoming play, ‘The Runaway Slave’ will be performed at various local venues next month.

The play is based on the New Testament Bible Story of Paul, Onesimus and Philemon and is written by Alan Young, of St Martha’s Church, with songs composed by Dave Chamberlin, of All Saints Church.

Directed by Graham Payne, of Brighton Vineyard Church, the play centres around Onesimus, a slave, who steals and runs away from his Master, Philemon. He goes to Rome, where he meets Paul, who converts and baptises him. As Paul knows he is Philemon’s slave, he sends Onesimus back and asks Philemon to accept him, not as a slave, but as a brother in Christ.

Christian Voices do not charge admission to their performances but choose a charity or good cause and gratefully accept donations. This time they have chosen Children with Cancer, a charity based in Polegate. Their aim is to grant wishes to children up to the age of eighteen, and their families, who have, or have had, cancer.
