This year’s big switch-on will be taking place on Friday, November 29, in the High Street from 7.15pm and there will be a whole range of Yuletide celebrations for visitors and locals alike.

The honour of switching on the Christmas decorations will fall on this year’s town mayor, Joyce Bowyer. She will be assisted by characters Miss Drift and Jack Frost from Worthing Theatres’ latest production, Santa Claus the Musical.

The event is once again being organised by Littlehampton Town Council in conjunction with the Littlehampton Traders’ Partnership.

Malcolm Belchamber, the chairman of the town council’s community resources committee, said: “I am really excited about what’s coming to Littlehampton this Christmas. It is great to see so many local groups and businesses working together to offer great entertainment and shopping opportunities throughout the festive period.

“All we need now is a dusting of snow to complete the winter wonderland feel.”

Festivities start from 5pm in the town centre with a lantern procession led by Celebration Samba and will feature horse drawn carriage trips from near Hunnies, a puppet show by Costa, live performances from Razzamataz, Edwin James Festival Choir and Littlehampton & Worthing Rock Choir. Other attractions include a fairground ride, special Christmas market stalls and much more.

There will be a winter fair in The Arcade, too, with a range of stalls on offer as well as evening storytelling.

Businesses across the town will be staying open late, until 8pm, and then on every Thursday throughout December, to help shoppers find that perfect present.

As part of the late-night shopping Thursdays there will be a Christmas craft market in the precinct from 2pm with live entertainment planned for each of the evenings.

The festive fun will continue next month with a special market on the Saturday, December 7, the Littlehampton Carnival Association’s Christmas Fun Day in the High Street on the 14th and the Wick Traders’ Victorian Wickmas event at Wick Hall on the same day. For more details, click here.
