The centre, in Southwick Street, Southwick, is celebrating its 70th anniversary and the fair helped raise funds towards improvements.

Maxine Coomber, chairman and secretary of the Individual Members Section, said: “The centre was one of the first in the country after the second world war and has been run by volunteers ever since.

“The Christmas fair was enjoyed by everyone and we were very lucky with the weather, it was very kind to us.

“There were stalls manned by members of affiliated groups, who are always looking for new members, and stallholders in other rooms, some of them being their first time at the centre.”

Dance displays were given by two of the schools who use the centre and the Barn Café provided a comfortable place for refreshments.

Southwick Players arranged for Father Christmas to fly in with his reindeers to visit the children. They were also able to have a lucky dip on the Individual Members’ stall, which proved popular.
