This year, the Friends have announced that the Sompting Tipteers have agreed to perform their ‘St George and the Turkish Knight’ act at the fayre on Saturday outside the museum, in High Street, at 2.30pm.

Liza McKinney, Friends honourary secretary, said: “Over the years the Christmas Fayre has brought a great deal of fun, pleasure and laughter to the High Street as well as satisfying Christmas present bargain hunters.

“There will be craft stalls offering an exciting variety of hand-carved wooden gifts, beautiful jewellery and from scarves to hats to keep out the cold, woollen designs, cards, pottery, glassware and much, much more.

“Santa will be in his grotto with a wishing well full of gifts. Home-made cakes, jams, sweets and preserves will be on sale, alongside the museum’s ‘famous’ hot mulled cider and mince pies, a giant raffle and tombola.

“However, as always, the Friends would be very grateful to receive donations of home-cooked produce such as cakes, jams and confectionery for their stall which can be left on November 25, between 10am and 12.30pm, or at other times by arrangement with Liza McKinney on 01273 462233.”

All proceeds go towards the upkeep and roof repairs of the museum, which has to be self-supporting.

Admission is free.
