Christmas Morning fire
A BEDSIDE candle is thought to have been the cause of a flat fire this morning.
Firefighters using breathing apparatus fought their way into a flat in London Road after a 7am call.
Watch Commander Graham Fletcher said the sole occupant of the flat, a 22 year-old woman, had got safely out of the smoke-filled property by the time they arrived.
Firefighters had the blaze out within 15 minutes. But the fire left the entire first floor flat smoke and fire-damaged.
The bed and bedside cabinet were destroyed.
