The regeneration of Newhaven town centre is being given a boost this Christmas and New Year with shoppers able to park for two hours for just 10p at Dacre Road multi-storey, Lower Place and West Quay car parks until January 2.

On December 12, parking in the town will be completely free for Christmas shoppers.

Now, this extended festive parking offer will give people even more opportunity to save the pennies on parking and spend it in the town centre instead.

Lewes District Council’s newly appointed Lead Member for Customers and Partnerships, Councillor Tony Nicholson and Mayor of Newhaven, Councillor Steve Saunders, have worked together on this seasonal parking deal.

Lewes District Council Leader Andy Smith said, “It’s nice to see councillors from different political parties working together to recognise the particular need in Newhaven to encourage people to visit the town centre at this time of year.”

Councillor Nicholson, Lead Member for Customers and Partnerships at Lewes District Council, said, “This festive parking offer shows the Council’s commitment to regenerating Newhaven by ensuring the town centre is bustling at this time of year.”

Councillor Saunders said, “I have consistently campaigned for parking concessions in Newhaven and I am very pleased that after some constructive discussions with Cllr Nicholson and the new administration, it has resulted in this announcement today.

“I am keen to work with all colleagues, to arrive at workable solutions to the particular problems we have in our town and will be continuing to work towards a way forward in the long-term for the High Street.”

The festive parking offer follows the announcement that Newhaven has been chosen by the Government as an Enterprise Zone and the focus on regeneration in the town with projects such as the UTC@harbourside university technical college for 14 to 18-year-olds, the Newhaven Growth Quarter and the town’s flood alleviation scheme.
