Church joins the fight against tax dodge companies

The Tax Justice Bus stopped at St Wilfrid’s Church on September 9 on a 53-day national tour by Christian Aid and Church Action on Poverty.

Its aim is to highlight the estimated $160bn lost in tax every year by companies which manipulate their accounts.

24 people visited the bus.

“It was a revelation to people companies do not pay their full amount of tax and this is a reasons why a lot of developing countries are unable to finance education and welfare systems.”

Among those who visited the bus was Bognor’s deputy town mayor, Cllr Paul Wells.

He told the town council on Monday said: “It’s staggering the amounts of money that are being shifted around to places like the Cayman Islands.”

The chance to look around an exhibition damning tax dodging was followed by a presentation in St Wilfrid’s about the subject.
