Nearly 3,000 visitors turned up the visiting buses, many of which had operated in the Hastings over the past 70 years.

The Show was officially opened by Hastings’ Mayor, Cllr Bruce Dowling, assisted by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Judy Rogers and Hastings Old Town Carnival Court, Queen Hannah and princesses Talitha and Frankie. Whilst they were there they inaugurated the gazebo presented to 1066 Show Marshals by the Community Shop in Old London Road.

Colin’s Classics presented a display of wedding cars and there was a first-time appearance from the UK Cruiser Club with their retro-style Chrysler Cruisers.

Among the exhibits was even a working, scale model of a Landrover made for young Cerys Allen by her grandfather.

Chairman Ion Castro said: “We had been hoping that Happy Harold, Hastings own, unique, open-top trolleybus would be there since the group is commemorating the death of his namesake, King Harold, at Battle 950 years ago. But unfortunately long-term repair work isn’t yet complete.

The engine has been totally rebuilt and refitted but there’s still lots to do. We are very grateful to Tom Bewick for carrying out all the specialist work. Tom is an expert in the restoration field and has donated his time as a contribution to the survival of this very special 88 year-old-vehicle which we hope will re-appear in public later in the year.”
