Climbing Kilimanjaro to aid air ambulance

BEXHILL man Geoff Smith is seeking sponsorship on behalf of Sussex Air Ambulance as he prepares for one of the biggest challenges of his life - climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Mr Smith has lived in Squirrel Close for 30 years and has taught law and business at Hastings College.

He has also served as a local magistrate.

He leaves for Africa later next month and aims to reach the 19,340 feet (5,895 metres) summit of Kilimanjaro on October 3.

Of his chosen charity, Mr Smith said: “Sussex Air Ambulance is literally a life-saver and has so far flown more than 350 missions this year alone.

“But the cost of providing the service is almost £2 million per annum and is entirely funded by donations and fund-raising.

“That’s why I hope people will support my climb by going on line and donating via www.justgiving.com/geoff-smith6 ”
