Close shave raises amazing £6,000 for cancer charity

Two women who used their heads to support a friend with cancer have raised more than £6,000 for charity.

Kirstie Embleton (38) and Wendy Norman (42) have presented the proceeds of their simple gesture of friendship to a representative of Breast Cancer Research.

Ali George, from the charity, praised them for their magnificent achievement to help its vital work.

She said most one-off events raised between 500 and 1,000.

The ceremony took place at The George Inn in Felpham.

It was on October 10 that Wendy and Kirstie had their heads shaved in support of their friend Jemma Cockaday (41).

She has lost her hair during her treatment for cancer and was there with her parents to see the cheque handed over.

What began as an idea between friends, turned into a magnificent event.

Friends, family members, local pubs and clubs all contributed to the success of the occasion.
