Clothing donations wanted at Horsham district fire stations

Fire stations in Horsham, Billingshurst and Partridge Green are collecting on behalf of the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports injured firefighters and their families.

The scheme is part of a national competition for fire stations to collect as much unwanted clothing and textiles during January.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has 15 of The Fire Fighters Charity’s bright yellow recycling clothing banks across its fire stations and office locations.

For every tonne gathered at the recycling banks The Fire Fighters Charity receives £220. More than £1m has been raised nationwide since the scheme began.

In addition to raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity, the recycling banks are also used to raise awareness of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s home fire safety checks.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s representative for the charity, firefighter Ian Sinfield, said: “If you are thinking of having a bit of a post-Christmas clear out, or you are updating your wardrobe, then please consider supporting your local firefighters by recycling your unwanted clothes, shoes and textiles in one of our big yellow collection banks.

“The Fire Fighters charity gives amazing support to injured fire service personnel and their families and we are lucky enough to have one of their rehabilitation centres right here in West Sussex.”
