Club to support Thakeham boy to help build new home

A club has announced it will be supporting the family of a young boy from Thakeham who are raising money to give their son a safe environment to grown up in.

Three-year-old Maxwell Smith was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease back in 2012 and requires around the clock care from his parents and nurses.

The disease causes extreme muscle weakness, a respiratory disorder and visual problems and the youngster relies on a ventilator to breathe and will do so for the rest of his life.

He currently lives on the ground floor of the family home, where there is space for all the machines and wires which he needs to help him survive.

The family have had planning permission accepted to convert Maxwell’s grandmothers garage into a safe house where he can live and grow up in a safe, clean environment.

The White Lion Gun Club, in Thakeham, announced at their AGM they will supporting Little Maxwell and all the money collected in their future fund rasing events will go towards helping the youngster.

This decision follows on from the £200 the club made at their annual dinner and prize giving at the Roundabout Hotel in West Chiltington in April.

During the evening members gave generously towards a raffle in aid of little Maxwell.

The money raised by the club will be going towards buying materials to complete the conversion which will also house all of Maxwell’s equipment.

The family are funding the build themselves and applied for a grant.

This was turned down and now the family are doing all they can to get the money they need to help their son.
