Coastguards were called to Seaford Head last night (Tuesday, December 29) to reports of a camper who set up a tent three metres from the cliff edge.
The Newhaven Coastguard team headed to the cliff top after receiving a call at around 9:15pm from a member of the public worried about the proximity of the tent to the cliff edge.
The coastguards spoke to the camper, who agreed to move to a safer location.
A spokesperson from Newhaven Coastguards said: “Due to the extreme wind (gusting 40 knots or gale force 8) one of our team kited up in a cliff harness attached to a safety line.
“The tent and associated equipment was passed back to other team members who relocated it a safe distance from the cliff edge.
“Although this person was not in difficulty, with the worsening weather and close proximity to the cliff edge, preventative measures were taken.
“Well done to the person who reported it for their vigilance.”
