Farrah Daughtrey, 11, added: “Her day dreaming is so detailed that the characters become real and I feel part of the story.”

Year 5,6 and 7 students, including ‘reading millionaires’, took part in the visit. The millionaires are children who have read more than one million words over the course of the year. It is the highest reading attainment in the school.

Jane Cresswell, assistant head teacher at Durrington First and Middle Schools, said: “The children were just ecstatic about it. They were fans before but this has pushed it even further. There’s nothing like a real author coming in is there?”

The school is now considering holding similar events on a termly basis.

Cathy said the school had an exceptionally wonderful library that enabled children to read and research literature.
