Almost 800 visitors took the chance to have a look around the new building which boasts a gym, a four-court multi-sport sports hall, fully equipped science laboratories, visual arts and photography studios, music facilities, modern classrooms, and student social areas.

In ‘The Hub’, the professional theatre and performing arts space, guests were treated to dance ‘flash mobs’, when a group bursts into dance, and theatrical improvisations.

There were also sports games, science demonstrations and music performances.

College principal Sarah Wright said: “It was a really fantastic day and a great opportunity to welcome a large number of visitors and offer them first-hand experience of college life.

“The new Sixth Form campus is the culmination of many years’ planning and hard work, so to be able to showcase the fruits of our labour to the local community at this event has been an absolute pleasure.

“Feedback from the event has been extremely positive, and visitors have commented on the first-class facilities we have to offer for students starting this September, enhancing educational prospects for the young people of Mid Sussex and beyond and offering so much back to the community at the same time. We’re immensely proud of what we have to offer.”

The college currently has 1,150 students but the building has the capacity for 1,400.

The old building is still present but the plans are for this to be demolished and the land will be landscaped to provide more open space for the students and possibly the installation of all-weather pitches.

The classrooms were created with the input of staff. The architects worked closely with the college to ensure their needs were meet and made to their specifications.
