College relishes a juicy bite of Apple

Apple education mentor, Ben Stanley, spent the day with students working on a project in which they used iPads to create a short video clip.

They used apps to create mind maps, mood boards and visual story boards to plan the clip, filmed the scenes and then edited the final clip using iMovie.

To complete their work, they created compositions to accompany their film using the software Garage Band.

The entire clip was planned, filmed, edited and completed using an iPad. They then connected the iPad directly to the interactive whiteboard to show their clip to the rest of the group.

Liam Barry, a Year 10 student, commented, “This has been the best school day I have ever had.”

Alison Bayley, from Rye College, said: “In the afternoon, colleagues from local schools and members of the community were invited to come along to join in some workshops and learn about the training sessions and loan scheme we can offer.

“Children from the Pugwash Nursery thoroughly enjoyed using pre-school educational apps on the iPods and iPads.”

The concept of the regional training centre is to educate students and primary and secondary school teachers in using Mac products, the aim of which is to enhance learning and teaching within the curriculum.

“Apple’s Regional Training Centre programme builds on the experience and achievements of many teachers already using technology in the classroom.

“Rye College is able to offer colleagues from local schools the opportunity to attend a series of free training courses relevant to their curriculum interests and needs.

“Our RTC will deliver training on the curriculum-enhancing opportunities of using mobile learning devices such as iPods and iPads, a range of apps along with award winning multimedia software within the iLife suite.
