Colourful lunchtime fundraiser for typhoon

An ‘emergency’ mufti day was organised when the school in Henfield Road, Upper Beeding, heard about the needs of the people who had been so badly affected by typhoon Haiyan on November 8.

The theme of the non- school uniform day was the colours of the Philippines national flag, which set people searching their wardrobes for red, blue and yellow clothing.

During morning break, a cake sale helped to start off the fundraising activities before lunchtime saw events in full swing.

Pupils joined in on the fundraising effort further and organised games activities, face painting, hair braiding and nail polishing.

All of these were held in the gym over lunchtime.

Staff and Sisters offered their nails, arms and hair to be painted, tattooed or braided.

By lunchtime, the school had raised £1,000 from cakes and donations and this was then doubled to £2,000 by the end of the school day.

All the money raised during the course of the day will be heading straight to the Philippines typhoon appeal.
