Colours galore at Tide of Light parade

The dry weather on Saturday allowed children to show off their lanterns in a parade before the fireworks started.

Organised by Bartie Presents, the lanterns were made by children at a free workshop earlier in the day.

“The event was a huge success,” said Jess Estcourt, one of the directors of Bartie Presents. “The children all had a really lovely time.”

She added that everyone was ‘really pleased’ they were able to take the lanterns outside to parade this year, after poorer weather had prevented them from doing so last year.

About 500 children and their accompanying adults went to the pavilion to take part in the workshop and decorate lanterns, she said.

While the parade looks all set to be back ‘same time, same place’ next year, Ms Estcourt added that Bartie Presents would need assistance from the community in order to run the event, which is free to all children.

“The funding is all raised through grants and sponsorships,” she said.

“It’s really important that the local businesses who benefitted on Saturday night give back.”

The event reportedly costs £20,000 to run.

Worthing Lions Club, which organises the fireworks, thanked the public for their generosity at the ‘enjoyable’ event, despite the firework display stopping part way through due to an electrical fault.
