Heathfield’s World War One commemoration events will begin on Thursday (September 18).

A talk, The Great War in Focus will take place at All Saints’ Church in Old Heathfield at 7.30pm presented by Rev Roger Kenward, RAF Rtd. The evening will include nostalgia with visuals and music. Tickets are £5 at the door.

There will also be the grand opening of an exhibition in All Saints’ Church the same day which will run for four days until September 21. As well as exhibits from organisations, there will be educational memorabilia from Hands on History. Hands on History will also be supporting the World War One Commemoration Education Day on Friday (September 19). The history department at Heathfield Community College will be contributing to the programme and include opportunities for young people from various schools to dress up in period army uniform and to learn from the heroics of the war in France. Music For Friday Night at All Saints’ Church is at 7.30pm. This will be an evening of entertainment with a varied concert of music and readings, presented by guest musicians and featuring Battle Town Band. The programme will also include a Jazz singer and a raffle in support of ‘Help for Heroes.’ Tickets are £6, and available at the door . A Special Quiz Night will be held on Saturday (September 20) at Broad Oak Village Hall. Arrival at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and tickets are £10 in advance including a three course meal. Civic and United Churches Songs of Praise concludes the World War One Commemorations for Heathfield at All Saints’ Church on Sunday (September 21). Doors open at 5.30pm.
