Celebrations started with a coffee morning and their weekly Toddler Time session where they were joined by Ferring Funtime Community Playgroup.
A birthday cake was also presented and was cut by George Bernard Shaw, who has visited the library every day for more than 20 years.
Lynda Gould, library assistant, said: “It was a wonderful day and it went better than I thought it would.
“We had over 200 people there which was amazing.”
Ferring Church of England Primary School choir also joined the celebrations and sang songs from the First World War and Happy Birthday.
The event was filmed by the Southdowns Filmakers who are making a celebratory film for the Parish of Ferring’s 1,250th birthday.
Eileen Godfrey, publicity officer, said: “It was a very good community event. We were all really pleased with it.”
