Entertainment was laid on and afternoon tea was served to everyone and the residents really appreciated meeting some old and some new faces. Some, who had previously visited residents in the home, were welcomed back to meet with old friends and some who will be coming to spend time in the near future were able to get a feel for the home and make some new friends.

Care Home Open Day is celebrated by care homes across the country. It aims to encourage stronger relationships between care homes and the local community. It also provides a chance for people to come and see what life inside a home is really like and get to know some of the fascinating people who live there.

The home is also celebrated Foundation Week, 13th – 19th June, and raised money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation at their open day with a raffle and a ‘Name the Doll’ game with a lovely doll beautifully made by a member of staff.

The Foundation supports older people and other adults with a disability in the local community by giving small grants to help promote personal independence, dignity and quality of life. Foundation Week is the highlight of the year of fundraising for the charity.

Joanna March, general manager at the home, said: “It was great that so many people came along to celebrate National Care Home Open Day with us and the entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Westlake House staff and residents love a good celebration but it’s always extra special when the local community get involved too.”
