Community spirit alive and well in Bognor

All ages enjoyed a week of action as an area of Bognor Regis came alive with community spirit.

Hundreds of people joined in the fun in the Pevensey ward. The aim of the event was to make the surroundings safer and better for everyone.

Among those who joined in on the final day last Friday were Bognor Regis Community College pupils Jack Knock, 15, and Ashley Stephenson, 16, as their holidays ended.

Jack had made it to the final of the week's pool tournament as he practised for a county final two days later.

He said: "It's a brilliant occasion. There are a lot of things you can do. It's just a good thing to come and chill out here."

Ashley said: "This place is superb. There are lots of different types of tables with information about various things to do."

Spectator Michael Roberts, 46, of Ashley House on Aldwick Road, said: "I've been here every day and I've really enjoyed it.

"It's all about having a laugh and seeing all the different events that have been going on."

The week was based around Bognor Youth and Community Centre on Westloats Lane.

It was buzzing with family cook-and-eat sessions, family fitness events, drum and guitar workshops, a 'young at heart' social club for older people and cycle maintenance.

The Safer Arun Partnership staged the event along with Bognor Community Action Network and the centre and Bognor CAN development manager, Carol Fullick, said: "We've had children, families and older people here. On Monday there were 250 children with their parents and another 150 people on Wednesday.

"This is the first time we have done anything like this at Easter but we have held a summer playscheme before and we will be staging one again this year."
