Community spirit works magic at Little Common

COMMUNITY is the magic word and it must be preserved, Town Mayor Cllr Patrick Douart has told Little Common Business Association.

He was opening the association's Summer Fair in the garden of The Wheatsheaf on Saturday afternoon.

The annual fair is one of Little Common Business Association's principal means of fund-raising.

It enables the association to undertake community projects such as Little Common's Christmas lighting and its flower baskets.

It also enables the association to support local community groups.

The Mayor was accompanied by his wife and Mayoress, Maureen.

He was introduced by association chairman Stuart Earl.

As supporters queued at the gate to get in, he said: " My wife and I are grateful for your inviting us to open your fair today.

"One can feel the wonderful community atmosphere that still exists in Little Common.

"Many thanks to Jean and Michael Jeanes and their family who, although not in business themselves, give so much support to the business community.

"Many thanks also to the Community Association that provides so many activities and services.

"Community is the magic word and it must be preserved. Without the support of the residents and customers of the village we would not have one.

"Show your support today and spend a lot of money."

There was much for supporters to spend their money on - from Little Common Horticultural Society's well-stocked plant stall to Little Common Flower Group's range of plant baskets.

They could try their hand at crockery-smashing, the bran tub, the tombola or the penalty shoot-out.

They could consult their local Police Community Support Officer, enjoy candy floss, play hoopla, buy cakes or try the dartboard.
