COMMUNITY STARS: Nominate your hero in the Herald/Gazette awards 2010

OUTSTANDING individuals and unsung heroes have the chance to shine in the Herald/Gazette series Community Stars awards.

The first nomination forms appeared in the Worthing Herald, Lancing Herald, Shoreham Herald, Steyning Herald and Littlehampton Gazette on Thursday, March 25, and a second form will appear in the April 1 edition, and subsequent weeks.

All nominees will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in November, hosted by Meridian Tonight presenter Fred Dinenage.

MANY people just couldn't cope without their amazing carers who quietly help people without realising how much they are depended on.

IS your neighbour also a friend in times of need?

YOU cannot help but admire volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to helping others but never ask for a penny. But how often do you hear about their hard work? We want to change that '“ and you can help.

AT the centre of every community is a real shining star who strives to make people's lives better.

Nothing is too much trouble for this person or team of people who make a real difference to the community. They simply are a star.

Sportsperson of the year

WHETHER it's football, swimming or tennis, there is a sporting star in the community who stands out from the crowd.

Best student

SCHOOLS and colleges bring out the best in students.

Do you know a student who has gone that extra mile for others, who has become an all-round education star or who has achieved in the face of adversity?

Do you know a team who don't have tons of trophies but who play with passion and spirit and take on challenges with determination?

ANY team would be lost without its manager or coach.

That person who pulls the troops together, who is encouraging and inspirational and is prepared to do anything for the sake of their team.

During the six month build-up to voting time people nominated for awards will have their stories featured in the Herald/Gazette series.

Last year, the Herald and Gazette offices were inundated with more than 300 nominations and almost 10,000 votes and we expect this year to be no different.

So don't delay, nominate your Community Star today.
