The session at Northbook College on Friday, April 12, saw a diverse range of firms gather to soak up advice on gaining the best from the internet in terms of sales and marketing.

Jointly organised by the college and Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce, the event offered a wealth of practical tips on web analysis and making websites as user-friendly as possible.

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton was among those attending the day and he believed it offered a genuine opportunity for companies to enhance their marketing.

Leading the event, Gori Yahaya, of Google, explained that it was important for companies to ensure they had the best web presence possible.

He demonstrated a number of elements from the company’s Google plus accounts in addition to how to make best use of social media as part of overall business strategy.

As he revealed, surveys conducted within the last two years had shown that a third of firms engaging with the internet company’s systems had revealed they were unsure of how they could measure the impact of using advanced web search features.

This has prompted Google to host a number of engagement sessions such as the one held at Northbrook College.

Mr Yahaya said: “I think it is vitally important for companies to engage with the internet in terms of seeing their business grow, as having a good site enables them to gain more business.

“With events like these, they are about showing people how they can enable customers to find them better.”

Tina Tilley, of Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce, felt the day had been extremely useful in discussing website techniques.

She said: “Doing business over the internet is the way forward for most businesses.

“People may not realise that Worthing is, in fact, a real hub of technology-based businesses who will appreciate and engage with what Google offers.”
