Competition win for camera club

In 2015 Storrington Camera Club won the shield for printed images, this year it was for projected digital images.

The competition, held in the Barn Theatre in Southwick on April 21, was attended by more than half of the membership from Storrington – an indication of the enthusiasm within the club.

The competition was judged by Wayne Grundy ARPS who had had ample time to view the images before the event. Wayne’s opinion was that the overall standard of images from all eight clubs was so high that marks would only be in the range 17-20 out of a maximum 20. This gave the prospect of a very close competition.

There were six rounds of in the competition with a single image from each club in each round. Storrington and Worthing were in the early lead with Steyning in close pursuit and so it continued until the half-time break with Storrington and Worthing tied. Indeed it was like that until the last round when the result depended on the last image shown. This was an unusual monochrome image from Storrington and needed to score 19 for an outright win. The judged teased the audience with high praise tempered with some criticism but after having raised the tension the score was 19 and Storrington had won.

Storrington were represented by Derek Grieve LRPS (who submitted two natural history images both of which scored a maximum 20), Anne Nagle, Jean MacWhirter LRPS (who also scored a maximum) , Martin Tomes and David Seddon.

Alec Pelham, chairman of the Regnum Crouch committee, asked ‘what is it about Storrington, a tiny club in a small village in West Sussex – do they have nothing better to do than take great photographs?’

In accepting the trophy Storrington Chairman Chris West LRPS agreed the members of the club do indeed take great photographs but that other social opportunities are available in the village!

Chris also said that next year Storrington’s challenge was to win both the Regnum print shield and the projected image shield in the one season.

The club needs new members to help it do that – and to remove its status as the smallest Camera Club in West Sussex. The new season starts in September – details on the club website, at www.storringtoncc.org.uk
