Compost doctors visit Friary Gardeners

To celebrate National Composting Awareness Week a team of compost doctors from East Sussex County Council will be in Hastings.

The green-fingered experts are visiting the Friary Gardeners project on The Ridge which teaches horticultural skills to disabled adults.

They will be there tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 1pm, manning an information stall and handing out advice on how to start composting.

The compost doctors will also be showcasing various compost bins and food waste digester units.

Councillor Matthew Lock, head of the environment at the local authority, said, "Up to one third of the average dustbin contents is largely food waste which can be composted.

"Using home-produced compost to grow your own fruit and vegetables is a great way of being green and saving money at the same time."
