Concerns over traffic safety in Hastings' Conquest ward

Dozens of people turned out to fill in a survey organised by Councillors Liam Atkins and John Rankin.

In attendance was the Hastings traffic engineer from East Sussex County Council who spent three hours at various locations in and around The Ridge, Hillside Road, Grange Road, Parkstone Road, Ghyllside Avenue, Little Ridge Avenue and at Ark Little Ridge Primary Academy.

Cllr Rankin said areas of concern identified included the lack of pedestrian crossings on The Ridge and the need for more double yellow lines at various points, the lack of a pavement between Maitland Close and Hillside Road, pavement parking between Stonestile Lane and the BP Garage on The Ridge, provision of enforceable double yellow lines in Parkwood Road, passing places and junction protection in Grange Road and at Clover Lea and St Helen’s Wood Road, together with repairs and ongoing maintenance to speed humps and road signs.

Cllr Atkins said: “The comprehensive survey was the first of its kind to be carried out in the ward for many years and as such, was very well-attended by many concerned residents. Both Cllr Rankin and I wish to extend our thanks to East Sussex County Council, and in particular, its traffic safety officer for attending and taking on board so many of the residents’ concerns.”
