Concert at Catsfield Church

A CONCERT is to be held in aid of restoring the valuable antique organ in Catsfield Church.

The organ was built by William Sweetland in 1883, whose Sweetland Organ Factory was responsible for what many consider to be the best instruments of their size in England.

All performances will be given free of charge according to Church Member Ann Carter, who said: "We are just asking for donations on the day. Any money, however little, will be gratefully received."

Pipe-organs such as the one in Catsfield are expensive to maintain - a new footpedal recently installed cost 1000.

The concert begins at 7pm on Friday, March 20. Refreshments will be provided in the interval.

Bob Andrew, Director of Music for the concert, said: "Too many village organs are being removed in favour of modern equivalents, but the pipe-organ needs to prevail. The public's help is paramount."
