Walter Wise, 92, was on the cruise from Southampton when he watched the band perform.

He said: “The Adur Concert Band peformed four concerts on the ship. Two inside in the gantry lounge and two more out on the decks.

“They were extremely popular as loads of people sat and watched them perform each concert. The band was very big with members playing xylophones, flutes, clarinets and loads of other different instruments.

“The concerts were great to listen to and really well received by those of us on the boat.”

The Adur Concert Band has a membership from Shoreham, Hove, Brighton, Worthing, Steyning and Crawley.

Originally called the Adur Youth Concert Band, they changed their name to reflect the type of band it had become.

Musical director Andrew Burchfield confirmed this was the first time the band had performed on a cruise ship.

He said: “This idea has been three and a half years in the planning.

“We wanted to do something special as this year is our 25th year together as a band and I took over in 1994.

“We enjoyed our time on the boat and we were really well received.”

Andy’s partner Jo Stevens helped the band organise their trip on the cruise.

Andy added: “She does all the emailing with the cruise ship organisers.

“I let her get on with those things and I just sort out the music.

“Myself and the whole band would like to say a massive thank you to all those that from Fred Olsen who helped us on the ship and all those that watched us perform.

“It was great to get some extra recognition.”
