Connaught Junior School pupils celebrate International Week

COLOURFUL costumes from all over the world made a spectacular sight in every classroom at Connaught Junior School, Littlehampton.

All 16 classes took part in the school’s International Week and each one adopted a country on which to base activities and learning ranging from food tasting and traditional dancing to creating a travel brochure or making the amazing statues from Easter Island.

There were also opportunities on the final day of the week to “travel” the world by going from classroom to classroom, to see the displays and hear about experiences of other countries.

Assemblies were held during the week on the theme of “It’s a Small World”, highlighting ways of making the world seem a smaller place, such as the new link between Connaught and a school in Sri Lanka.

The week was organised by the school’s modern and foreign language co-ordinators, Lucinda Challis and Charity Glover, with the aim of helping pupils to learn more about, and understand better, the wider world, find out about different cultures and try new things.

Said Lucinda: “The children have been very enthusiastic, even learning about more things at home.

“Some of the costumes they wore were brilliant, really fantastic.”
